World Archery (WA) has declared Archery Association of India (AAI) as its invalid member and given it a month’s time to either clear the mess or face suspension. In a recent meeting held in Den Bosch, the WA Executive Board issued a statement that elections of AAI held in Delhi and Chandigarh on June 9, 2019 is considered as invalid and it would not accept representatives of both factions as legal representatives of AAI.
The Executive Board has decided that there is sufficient evidence that the AAI is in breach of Articles 1.4.2.4 and 1.4.2.5.1. of the World Archery Constitution and Rules and, specifically, the last bullet point of 1.4.2.5.1 Article requiring good governance,
The AAI has also listed strict guidelines for making changes to the country’s final entries for World Cup Stage IV in Berlin (July 1-7) and Tokyo test event (July 11-18) and for accepting entries for the World youth championships in Madrid (August 19-25). The organization will wait till July 31, 2019 before deciding on AAI’s suspension. WA will wait for the Supreme Court’s verdict on the controversial elections of the AAI.
IOA president Narinder Batra said WA giving a timeline was “disrespectful and discourteous” towards the court. He also alleged that the “WA is compromising with the autonomy” of AAI.
