29-year old shooter Ravi Kumar entered the ongoing Commonwealth Games with plenty of hope after his commendable performance at the ISSF World Cup. But he has to settle for a bronze in 10m Air Rifle at Gold Coast 2018. Ravi Kumar entered the final after finishing second in qualifying round. It was a tough battle in the final rounds among Ravi and Australia’s Dane Samson and Abdullah Hel Baki of Bangladesh. But he finished third with shots of 10.4, 10.1, 9.3 and 10.2 totalling to 224.1. Samson claimed gold with a new Games record score of 245 and Baki took silver with 244.7.
In the Men’s 94kg Weightlifting, Vikas Thakur took the bronze after hiccups in the Clean and Jerk category. Thakur comfortably lifted 152 kg, 155kg and 159kg in his three Snatch attempts. By the end of the round, he sat in the second position, nine points behind Canada’s Boady Santavy, who created a Games record by lifting 168 kg. He started the Clean and Jerk with a successful attempt of 192 kg. But he failed his next two attempts of 200kg. Papua New Guinea’s Steven Kari and Boady Santavy of Canada went past him to claim the gold and silver respectively.
