SUMMER UNIVERSIADE 2017 (WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES)

Description: The International University Sports Federation (FISU) organise the Universiade (World University Games) every two years. The Universiade is the largest multi-sport event in the world apart from the Olympic Games. The most recent games were in 2017: the Winter Universiade held in Almaty, Kazakhstan The Summer Universiade is held in Taipei, Taiwan, between 19–30 August, 2017.
This year in the 29th edition of Universiade, 11,000 athletes from more than 140 nations in 22 disciplines will participate. The Games will be played at 38 competition venues, which include two newly built stadium-Taipei Tennis Center and Taipei Heping Basketball Gymnasium.
The biggest attraction of the games is the former legendary athlete Carl Lewis who is present as the sprint coach for the United States University team.
The opening ceremony of the event presented the story of Taiwan, its past, present and future. The entire programme was divided into three chapters based on the themes of nature, city and technology. However, the opening ceremony was affected by a protest by retired government employees against the ruling government for which many contingent could not reach at the event on time. Indian contingent also missed the opening parade along with some other nations.
