India bowed out of the Squash World Cup after a 0-3 defeat at the hands of Malaysia in the semi-finals of the Squash World Cup 2023.
Fourth seeded Malaysia stunned second seeded India 3-0 in the semi finals to enter into the final of Squash World Cup 2023. While Malaysia will face Egypt in the final, India have to remain satisfied with bronze medal along with fellow semi final loser Japan.
In the first match of the semi final, India’s Abhay Singh, lost the opening game to Ong Sai Hung. Abhay fought back strongly to clinch the next two games. Sai Hung, however, won the fourth and fifth game 7-1 and 7-6 to win the match.
In the next match, India’s Joshna Chinappa could not carry on the momentum of her previous matches. She lost to the promising 19-year-old talent, Aira Azman, with a scoreline of 3-1.
India’s No 1 player and Commonwealth Games 2022 bronze medalist Saurav Ghosal was outplayed by the 149th-ranked Darren Pragasam. He lost the match 1-3. The last match between Xin Ying Yee and Tanvi Khanna was withdrawn.
