India continued their winning run in the Squash World Cup to enter the semi-finals by defeating Japan 3-1.
In the opening match of the tie, India’s Abhay Singh lost to Tomotaka Endo in three games. However, veteran Joshna Chinappa staged a brilliant comeback to level the tie 1-1. Chinappa, ranked 72 in the world, upset World No.18 Satomi Watanabe with the scoreline reading 2-7, 7-4, 3-7, 7-5, 7-5.
India’s No 1, Saurav Ghosal, won the third match to take India into lead before Tanvi Khanna won easily against Akari Midorikawa.
Host India, who are seeded second in the Squash World Cup 2023 will now face Malaysia in the semi finals. Earlier in the day, Egypt edged out Malaysia 3-1 in the Group-A tie, and topped the group.
