Selection for IPA Pickleball Nationals- MH players get PWR points

The 4th Maharashtra State Pickleball Tournament 2024-25, organised by the Pickleball Association of Maharashtra, was held in Mumbai from 21st-22nd September 2024.

The Maharashtra State Pickleball Tournament is the annual state tournament of the Pickleball Association of Maharashtra, which is nationally affiliated with the India Pickleball Association (IPA). The 4th edition of the tournament was held at Stellar World School-Goregaon and Khar Gymkhana in Mumbai with players coming from different districts of Maharashtra.

The winners of the tournament are selected to play at IPA’s National Tournament to be held in December 2024. The winners in various categories are:

  • Boys’ Singles U14- Veer Chugh
  • Boys’ Doubles U14- Kabir Kamra & Yaniv Sainani
  • Boys’ Doubles U19- Mayank Dharampuria & Shourya Kukreja
  • Men’s Singles Open- Aryaan Bhatia
  • Men’s Doubles Open- Tushar Singh & Aryaan Bhatia
  • Men’s Singles 35+- Rohan Salvi
  • Men’s Doubles 35+- Heman Jain & Himanshu Dewaskar
  • Men’s Singles 50+- Kiran Salian
  • Men’s Doubles 50+- Kiran Salian & Nozer Amalsadiwala
  • Men’s Singles 60+- Bhushan Akut
  • Men’s Doubles 60+- Bhushan Akut & Rakesh Shrestha
  • Women’s Singles Open- Mihika Tadav
  • Women’s Doubles Open- Naomi Amalsadiwala & Pearl Amalsadiwala
  • Women’s Singles 35+- Sunita Yadav
  • Women’s Doubles 35+- Sindoor Mittal & Simran Bangera
  • Women’s Doubles 50+- Shakuntala Devnani & Bela Kotwani
  • Mixed Doubles Open- Ronav Motiani & Pearl Amalsadiwala
  • Mixed Doubles 35+- Swapneil Akut & Simran Bangera
  • Mixed Doubles 50+- Shakuntala Devnani & Bhushan Akut

The tournament also added 200 PWR (Pickleball World Ranking) points to the players. It has also been a preparation tournament for the players before the PWR India Tour, which starts in October 2024. Kishor Niphadkar, the Secretary of the Pickleball Association of Maharashtra, said, “This will be helping players to have practice matches for the big event that’s happening for Indian Masters in PWR. And we were looking forward players to get ready for that tournament.”    

Play Master, the organisation that successfully conducted the Monsoon Pickleball Championship 2024, managed this tournament in a structured and professional manner.

After the successful implementation of plans in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu, IPA’s primary motive is the infrastructural growth of Pickleball in other states. With this vision, IPA is gradually becoming instrumental in developing Pickleball in India by aiming at qualitative development of the sport.

PoulomiKundu started her career in 2000 as a freelance journalist in Hindustan Times. Soon after she was selected an intern in Zee News, Kolkata. After her post- graduation in English, Poulomi joined the leading television production house of eastern India, Rainbow Productions. She was a journalist in Khas Khobor, a Bengali news magazine programme in Doordarshan and also headed the post production department of another programme, Khas Kolkata. In 2004, Poulomi moved to Delhi as a creative writer in an advertising agency, Brand Stewards Pvt. Ltd. In 2005, she again shifted her base for a better opportunity and that in Mumbai. There she got the job in Raa Media Pvt Ltd. as an associate director of two programmes for Doordarshan-Yuva and Paisa Vasool. In the meantime, she also wrote features in DNA as a freelancer. Poulomi directs promotional videos, develops scripts for films for Corporate and NGOs. But an ardent sports lover, Poulomi always had an urge to contribute somewhere in the field of sports. Her love for sports started from an early age when she played gully cricket and football for local teams. Academics and professional hazards sometimes took her away from her passion, but it never died in her. She always nurtured the never-ending dream. So she materialized her dream in the form of ‘SPORTSAVOUR’. It is an online sports portal that serves sports with the tagline ‘For the indigenous, unconventional, unknown’.
