Paris Olympics Day 12: Vinesh Phoghat disqualified from Olympics

Paris Olympics Day 12- Vinesh Phoghat’s disqualification became the headlines at Paris as India failed to add any medal on the day.

Mirabai Chanu finished fourth with a total lift of 199kg. She thus missed out on a historic second Olympic medal. 

India’s Avinash Sable finished eleventh in the 3000m Steeplechase event. Earlier Avinash became the first Indian man to qualify for the 3000m Steeplechase at the Olympics.

But the heartbreaking news for the Indians was wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from the Women’s 50kg gold medal match. Vinesh failed to make weight on the morning of the bout as she was found to be 100gm overweight.

Weightlifting 49kg– Mirabai Chanu finished 4th (Total lift of 199kg)

WRESTLING

Women’s Freestyle 50kg (Gold medal match)– Vinesh Phogat disqualified after failing to make weight

Women’s Freestyle 53kg (Round of 16)– Antim Panghal lost to Zeynep Yetgil 10-0

TABLE TENNIS

Women’s Team (Quarter Final)– India (Sreeja Akula, Manika Batra and Archana Girish Kamath) lost 1-3 to Germany

ATHLETICS

Men’s High Jump (Qualification)- Sarvesh Kushare finished 25th

Women’s 100m Hurdles (Heat)- Jyothi Yarraji finished 7th

Mixed Team Marathon Race Walk– Suraj Panwar and Priyanka Goswami failed to finish

Women’s Javelin Throw– Annu Rani finished 15th (Best throw of 55.81m)

Men’s 3000m Steeplechase (Final)– Avinash Sable finishes 11th (8:14.18s)
