Defending champion Neeraj Chopra threw his season’s best effort of 89.34m in his very first attempt in the qualification of the men’s javelin event on Paris Olympics Day 11. Neeraj had an automatic qualification and will now fight for the lympic gold on August 8.
But on Paris Olympics Day 11, the talk of the town was Vinesh Phoghat. Her day-long campaign started with a stunning win over defending Olympic and world champion Yui Susaki. Vinesh ended Susaki’s unbeaten 82-fight run by defeating her 3-2. In the quarter final she defeated higher-ranked Ukrainian Ostava Livach. She made to the final by defeating Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez 5-0 in the semi final.
But the heartbreaking moment came in Men’s Hockey when India was defeated by Germany 3-2 in the semi final. India will now play for bronze on August 8.
