National Games 2023- Maharashtra win title after 29 years

Maharashtra emerged overall champions at the National Games 2023 in Goa with 228 medals. Services finish second.

Maharashtra dethroned Services, winner of the last four editions, to collect the Raja Bhalindra Singh Trophy for overall championship at the National Games 2023. The state athletes finished with a total of 228 medals- 80 gold, 69 silver and 79 bronze.

Services finished second with 66 gold, 27 silver and 33 bronze medals. Services were champions at the National Games in Assam (2007), Kharkhand (2011), Kerala (2015) and Gujarat (2022). 

Haryana stood third with 62 gold, 54 silver and 73 bronze. Madhya Pradesh and Kerala finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Gymnast Pranati Nayak of Odisha and Sanyukta Kale of Maharashtra won the best female athlete award. In the men’s category, swimmer Srihari Natraj of Karnataka won the best male athlete award. Srihari picked up 8 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.

Indian Olympic Association president, P T Usha, confirmed that the next edition of the National Games will be held in Uttarakhand.
