Khelo India University Games 2021- Mallakhamb wins heart as Women’s team of Mumbai University emerge champion

Mallakhamb, an indigenous sport, has been introduced into Khelo India University Games for the first time.

The University of Mumbai won the Mallakhamb women’s team championship with a final score of 86.45. Savitribai Phule University, Pune won silver while Vikram University, Ujjain won bronze.

Host Jain University picked up four gold medals and maintained its lead at the top of the medal table. Savitribai Phule University won two gold medals to take its tally to seven medals (two gold, one silver, four bronze) in Weighlifting.

Tamil Nadu’s SRM University beat Bharathiar University in the Women’s final to become the inaugural women’s Volleyball champions. In the Men’s Volleyball, SRM University defeated University of Calicut 3-0 in the final.

Punjab University won two gold medals in Shooting at KIUG 2021. They won gold in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle team. Arav Singh Dagar won the Men’s Individual Trap.

However, Youth World Boxing champion Vinka lost in the 57-60kg category semi-finals against  Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Shekhawati University’s Muskan. She won by split decision despite a late flurry by Vinka.
