India at CWG 2022- On day 2, Mirabai Chanu wins gold; India get 4 medals in Weightlifting

Indian weightlifters had a spectacular outing on the second day of the Commonwealth Games 2022 at Birmingham.

Mirabai Chanu, the champion weightlifter, secured a gold medal in the Women’s 49kg Weightlifting final, which was also India’s first gold in the ongoing edition. Her best lifts were 88kg (snatch) and 113kg (clean and jerk). The Olympic silver medallist successfully defended her CWG title at Birmingham. 

Earlier, young weightlifter Sanket Sargar won a silver medal in Men’s 55kg category, giving India its first medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022.

Weightlifter Gururaja Poojary clinched a bronze medal in the Men’s 61kg category at the Commonwealth Games, adding to India’s tally.

Later, the day ended with the silver medal win of Bindyarani Devi in the Women’s 55kg category, raising India’s medal tally to 4.
