India at CWG 2022- Indian women enter Lawn Bowls final; Sushila Devi, Vijay Kumar and Harjinder Kaur win medals

The Indian Lawn Bowls Women’s Fours team created history by reaching the final of the event on day 4 of the Commonwealth Games 2022.

The Indian team comprising Rupa Rani Tirkey, Lovely Choubey, Pinki and Nayanmoni Saikia defeated New Zealand by 16-13 after 15 Ends. India trailed 12-13 before going into the final End. Pinki and Saikia brought India back into the contest and the final points were won when Tirkey’s earned India four points in her final attempt.

Judokas Sushila Devi and Vijay Kumar Yadav added two more medals to India’s medal tally at the Commonwealth Games 2022. Sushila lost the Women’s 48kg final via ‘Waza-Ari’ in 4.25 minutes against South Africa’s Michaela Whitebooi. This was Sushila’s second Commonwealth Games medal after she had finished runners-up at the 2014 Glasgow Games.

On the other hand, Vijay Kumar Yadav, gold medallist of Commonwealth Championships in 2018 and 2019, won the match against his opponent by pinning him down for 10 seconds to end the contest in just 58 seconds with Ippon.

The last medal of the day came with Harjinder Kaur’s bronze in Women’s 71kg Weightlifting. Harjinder totalled 212kg – 93kg in Snatch and 119kg in Clean and Jerk.
