Unstoppable Hima Das, the ace Indian sprinter won her 4th international gold within 15 days after she bagged the top position in the 200m race at the Tabor Athletics Meet in Czech Republic. Hima clocked her season best of 23.25 seconds to clinch gold. Her compatriot VK Vismaya won the silver medal with a season best 23.43 seconds. In the Men’s 400m national record holder Muhammad Anas clinched the gold medal in 45.40 seconds. Anas also won gold on July 13th in the men’s 400m race at Kladno Athletics Meet in Czech Republic.
“Won another gold today in 200m and improved my timings to 23.25s at Tabor GP,” the sprinter from Assam tweeted after her victory.
On July 2nd, 2019, Das won the Women’s 200m gold at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland . She had clocked 23.65 seconds on her way to her first consecutive gold this season. Five days later, on July 7th, 2019, Hima won her second international gold in women’s 200m with a top finish at the Kutno Athletics Meet in Poland. The 19-year sprinter clocked 23.97 seconds to clinch her second gold. Her third gold came on July 13th, 2019 at the Kladno where she clocked a much improved time of 23.43 seconds to win her third gold.
Hima Das was also in the news when she donated half of her monthly salary for flood relief efforts in Assam. A native of the state, Das urged citizens to contribute towards relief funds to help the lakhs of displaced personsthrough her official twitter account. “I have contributed my bit and requesting others also to please help people of Assam,” was her statement.
In the past few days, Assam has been ravaged by floods affecting almost 30 districts in the state. Hima also tweeted, “I would like to request big corporate and individuals to kindly come forward and help our state in this difficult situation.”
