Commonwealth Games 2022- On day 3 Australia lead with 22 gold

Day 3 of the Commonwealth Games 2022 was again filled with sporting actions with medals won in the Artistic Gymnastics, Weightlifting, Triathlon and Para Triathlon, Cycling, Rugby Sevens and Swimming at Birmingham.

Badminton

England entered the Mixed Team quarter-finals with a dominant 3-0 win over Canada. England will face Malaysia in the semi-finals while India will take on Singapore.

Cricket

Australia stormed into the semifinals by defeating Barbados who were bowled out for just 64.

In another match, India bowled Pakistan out for just 99 inside 18 overs and then raced to their target in just 11.4 overs.

Table Tennis

India eased into the semi finals of the Men’s Team event with a 3-0 win over Bangaldesh. Nigeria beat Malaysia 3-2 to enter the semi finals. England and Singapore are the other two teams to qualify for the semi finals.

In the Women’s Team competition, Singapore reached the final by beating Australia 3-0. Malaysia id the other finalist who beat Wales 3-2.

Netball

Malawi picked up their first win in Birmingham with a 54-41 victory over Northern Ireland. South Africa won against Barbados 91-36. In another match, Wales edged passed Scotland 48-42.

Hockey

Australia won 12-0 against Scotland, New Zealand won 4-1  against Pakistan, India beat Ghana 11-0 and England had a 4-2 win against Wales.

Beach Volleyball

Defending champion Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar of Australia began with a 2-0 win over Sri Lanka. Vanuatu pair of Miller Pata and Sherysyn Toko won 2-0 over Scotland’s Melissa Coutts and Lynne Beattie. English duo Daisy Mumby and Jessica Grimson beat the Solomon Islands’ Hannah U’Una and Rose Gwali 2-0, while Cyprus pair Manolina Konstantinou and Zoi Konstantopoulou overcame Suraya Chase and Phylecia Armstrong of Trinidad and Tobago 2-0.

Boxing

England’s Lewis Richardson moved to the next round after a split decision verdict over Uganda’s Yusuf Nkobeza. Scotland’s Sam Hickey beat Kyghan Mortley of St Lucia.

Squash

Defending men’s singles James Willstrop comprehensively defeated Pakistan’s Nasir Iqbal in their round-of-16 clash with an 11-6, 11-4, and 11-7 straight-sets victory. Canada’s Hollie Naughton recorded a 11-6, 11-7 and 18-14 straight-sets win over Aifa Azman of Malaysia in the women’s section.

Medallists of Day 3

South Africa stunned Olympic champions Fiji 31-7 to win Men’s Rugby Sevens Commonwealth gold.  Australia claimed the Women’s Rugby gold by defeating Fiji 22-12. New Zealand claimed both men’s and women’s bronze.

England’s James Wilby clinched gold in the Men’s 100 metres Breaststroke.
