Paris Paralympics Day 6- It was another brilliant day for India with Major successes in track and field events.
On Paris Paralympics Day 6, India’s medal tally reached 16 with 3 gold, 5 silver, and 8 bronze. India is now closer to the record haul of 19 in the 2020 edition of Paralympics in Tokyo.
Sharad Kumar upgraded his medal colour by winning silver in Men’s High Jump T63. Kumar had won a bronze in the Tokyo Paralympics three years ago. He cleared 1.88m while compatriot Mariyappan Thangavelu got a bronze with an effort of 1.85m.
Ajeeth Singh won the other silver in Men’s Javelin Throw F46. Ajeet upstaged compatriot Sundar Singh Gurjar with a fifth-round throw of 65.62m. On the other hand, Gurjar, who is the world record holder, threw 64.96m to achieve the bronze medal.
Deepthi Jeevanji bagged the bronze medal in the Women’s 400m T20 event clocking 55.02s. There had been no medals for India in track running events before this edition. Now with Deepthi’s medal and Preethi Pal’s double bronze in the 100m and 200m T35 events, India has three to its credit.
The last medal on Paris Paralympics Day 6 was won by Mariyappan Thangavelu. After gold in Rio 2016 and silver in Tokyo 2020, Mariyappan won bronze in Paris. He won the bronze with a leap of 1.85m.
