Kidambi Srikanth emerges richest shuttler this year

India’s ace shuttler, Kidambi Srikanth rocketed him to the top of the overall prize money standings this year as published in a report in BWF News. Kidambi’s run of three straight finals – including back-to-back victories over in made him the highest earner surpassing World No 1 women’s singles shuttler Tai Tzu Ying. Prior to Singapore, where Kidambi reached the final in mid-April, he had only won US$16,597.50 on court. However, that has jumped to US$147,847.50 thanks to his runner-up finish there followed by his title in the Indonesia Open and the Australian Open. Srikanth’s earnings are more than double of those of Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei, who trails at the second place with $71,300, while China’s Lin Dan is third with $69,795.

Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu  remains the only other Indian in the top 10 across categories. She is placed seventh on the list of women’s singles players with her earnings of $47,075.
