National Games 2022- Services emerge champions with 61 gold

Curtains fell down on the 36th Nationals Games that were held in Gujarat from September 29 to October 12.

India’s prestigious multi-event sporting event, the 36th National Games 2022, was held across six cities of Gujarat- Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar. Around 7,000 athletes took part across 36 sporting disciplines that included traditional Olympic disciplines as well as indigenous sports like Mallakhamb, Kho Kho and Kabaddi, amongst others..

Services came into the 2022 edition as three-time defending having won the championship in 2007, 2011 and 2015. The team won their fourth consecutive title with 61 gold, 35 silver and 32 bronze medals. In total, services bagged 128 medals in the Games, followed by Maharashtra with 140 medals (39 gold, 38 silver and 63 bronze). Haryana grabbed the third position with 115 medals (38 gold, 38 silver and 39 bronze).

29-year-old Sajan Prakash won eight medals, with five individual gold, two silver and a bronze, to be named the Best Male Athlete. Hashika Ramachandra was awarded the Best Female Athlete who won six gold medals on National Games debut.
