Boxing
Scotland’s Tyler Jolly, recorded the fastest knockout in the history of the Commonwealth Games after he entered the semi final of Men’s Over 63.5kg-67kg Welterweight with a point victory over Neville Warupi of Papua New Guinea.
Beach Volleyball
In the women’s section, Australia retained their 100 per cent winning record in Pool B -by a 2-0 victory over Cyprus. They will face Scotland in the quarter final who claimed a 2-0 win over the Solomon Islands. Vanuatu has beaten England 2-0, who will face New Zealand in the last eight.
In the men’s competition, Canada had a 2-1 victory over Gambia. They will meet Cyprus in the quarter final.
Lawn Bowls
Australia’s defending men’s singles champion Aaron Wilson had a 21-7 victory over Guernsey’s Todd Priaulx. Ryan Bester of Canada claimed a 21-10 win against Wales’ Daniel Salmon.
In the women’s triples quarter-finals, defending champions Australia suffered a 14-10 defeat to New Zealand.
In Para Mixed Pairs, Wales won against Australia by 13-10 to enter the final against Scotland.
Cricket
England will face India in the semi final after defeating New Zealand by 10 wickets in their group match. South Africa confirmed third place in the group with a comprehensive 10-wicket victory over Sri Lanka.
Hockey
In Women’s quarter final, England defeated Wales 5-0, while New Zealand beat South Africa 4-1 to advance to the semi final.
In Men’s category, India saw off Wales 4-1 , South Africa beat New Zealand 4-3, England eased past Canada 11-2, and defending champions Australia won 7-0 against Pakistan.
Badminton
World champion Kean Yew Loh entered the last 16 with a 2-0 win over South Africa’s Robert Summers in Men’s Singles. India’s Srikanth Kidambi won over Uganda’s Daniel Wanagaliya.
In the women’s singles, P V Sindhu is also through after a 2-0 win over Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq of the Maldives.
Medallists of Day 7
27-year-old Jack Laughter from England defended the title he won at Glasgow 2014 and the Gold Coast four years ago to claim a hat-trick of wins in Men’s 1m Springboard with 447.05 points. Two-time world champion Shixin Li of Australia settled for silver while another Englishman Jordan Houlden won the bronze.
Teenager Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix won gold in Women’s 10m Platform with a winning score of 357.50. Her teammate Lois Toulson won the silver.
30-year old Australia’s Grace Brown won Women’s Cycling Time Trial gold has beaten England’s Anna Henderson by 33.35 seconds while another Australian Rohan Dennis secured the Time Trial Double gold.
LaQuan Nairn of the Bahamas secured the first gold medal for his country when he won the Men’s Long Jump title. India’s Murali Sreeshankar won the silver whereas South Africa’s Jovan van Vuuren claimed bronze.
The Canadian team comprising of Tatiana Cocsanova, Carmel Kallemaa and Suzanna Shahbazian won the Commonwealth Rhythmic Gymnastics team title.
India’s Sudhir claimed the Men’s Heavyweight Para Powerlifting title with a Games record 134.5 points. Nigeria’s Ikechukwu Christian Obichukwu took the silver, while Scotland’s Micky Yule took the bronze.
