Rosemary Lenton made her Commonwealth Games debut at Birmingham at the age of 72, almost two decades after she took to a wheelchair.

Netball

In Pool A, South Africa beat Wales 69-51, while Scotland beat Barbados 72-28. In the same pool, Uganda earned their second win with a 63-26 success over Northern Ireland. Malawi overcame Trinidad and Tobago 70-30 in Pool B.

Cricket

Australia had a 44-run thumping victory over Pakistan at Edgbaston to secure top spot in their group. Beth Mooney (70*) and Tahlia McGrath (78*) combined in an unbeaten 141-run stand to post a total of 160/2. In response Pakistan could only reach 116/8.

In the evening match between India and Barbados, the former went for a 100-run victory. Jemimah Rodrigues scored an unbeaten 56 off 46 balls to guide India to 162/4. Chasing 163, Barbados crumbled against Renuka Singh’s breathtaking display, who scalped four wickets. Sneh Rana, Radha Yadav, Meghna Singh, Harmanpreet Kaur picked a wicket each.

Beach Volleyball

Defending champion Chris McHugh and his partner Paul Burnett made it three wins from three with a 2-0 win over Rwanda.

Cyprus defeated Tuvalu 2-0, South Africa beat the Maldives 2-1 and New Zealand beat England 2-0.

In the women’s competition, Kenya had a 2-1 victory over Ghana and Canada beat New Zealand 2-0.

Boxing

Scotland’s Sam Hickey won the contest against Adeyinka Benson of Nigeria after the referee stopped the contest.

Defending champion of middleweight title, Canada’s Tammara Thibeault won against Caymen Islands’ Hepseba Angel after referee halted her fight.

Badminton

Malaysia’s Cheah Yee See and Lai Pei Jing won their doubles match 23-0 win over Barbados’ Sabrina Charllene Scott and Tamisha Janelle Williams.

Australia’s Nathan Tang beat Kenya’s Mdogo Sikoyo 2-0, while in the mixed doubles Scotland’s Christopher Grimley and Eleanor O’Donnell beat Zaki Shaheed and Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq of the Maldives 2-0.

Hockey

In Pool A, India made it three wins from four with a 3-2 victory over Canada, taking a giant leap to top its pool. Australia recorded another win in women’s Pool B with a 2-0 win over Scotland.

In men’s Pool A, Australia defeated South Africa 3-0 and Pakistan edged past Scotland 3-2. India registered an 8-0 win over Canada in Pool B as Wales overcame Ghana 6-1.

Table Tennis

Malaysia’s Karen Lyne launched her singles campaign with a 4-1 win over Scotland’s Rebecca Plaistow. Another Malaysian Ai Xin Tee beat Judith Nangonzi of Uganda 4-0.

In the men’s tournament Qi Shen Wong won 4-0against Geoffrey Loi of Papua New Guinea.

Medallists of Day 6

Scotland’s Rosemary Lenton won a gold medal at the age of 72 alongside Pauline Wilson with victory in the Women’s Pairs B6-B8 final. They defeated Australia’s Cheryl Lindfield and Serena Bonnell. Lenton made her Commonwealth Games debut two decades on after she became wheelchair bound.

31-year old Scotland’s Eilish McColgan took gold in the 10,000m at Birmingham 2022. Kenya’s Irine Cheptai settled for silver, while her compatriot Sheila Kiprotich won bronze.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson successfully defended her Commonwealth Games title with 6377 points ahead of Northern Ireland’s Kate O’Connor who took silver and England team-mate Jade O’Dowda in third in Birmingham.

Gina Kennedy became the first Englishwoman to win gold in the women’s squash singles at the Commonwealth Games. She beat 25-year-old beat Canada’s Hollie Naughton 3-1.

New Zealand’s Paul Coll secured gold in the men’s singles with a narrow 3-2 victory over Joel Makin of Wales. India’s Saurav Ghosal beat England’s James Willstrop for bronze.

Tom Dean of England finally won a gold after six successive silver medals in the Commonwealth Games. Alongside Brodie Williams, James Wilby and James Guy, Dean finally got gold in the men’s 4x100m medley relay final.
