India’s Jeremy
and Achinta Sheuli19-year-old Jeremy Lalrinnunga, a former Youth Olympic champion, won gold in the Men’s 67kg Weightlifting at the Commonwealth Games 2022. In his first appearance in the Games, Jeremy set a new Commonwealth Games record of 300kg overall (140kg snatch and 160kg in clean and jerk).
After the record lift of 140kg in snatch, Jeremy was 10 kg ahead of the others. He picked up an injury scare after his first clean and jerk lift of 154kg. In his second attempt, he lifted 160kg but fell on the podium with pain. But his 160kg lift was enough to win gold ahead of Samoa’s Vaipava Nevo.
Achinta Sheuli lifted a total of 313 kg in Men’s 73 kg Weightlifting to win the third gold medal for India. He was a strong contender to win the gold medal, and he fulfilled the expectations. He joined Jeremy Lalrinnunga and Mirabai Chanu as India’s three gold medallists in Weightlifting at the CWG 2022.
With Achinta’s win, India’s medal tally now rises to six, with three gold, two silver and one bronze.
