The second edition of the Khelo India University Games came to an end through a glittering ceremony at Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium in Bengaluru.
On the final day of the KIUG2021, Kurukshetra University won gold in Women’s Kabaddi by defeating Maharashi Dayanand University with a score of 46-19. In the Men’s event, University of Kota took home the gold medal when they won against Chaudhary Bansi Lal University by 52-37. The final matches were witnessed by pro Kabaddi players like Pawan Sehrawat, Naveen Kumar and Ajay Thakur. Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sport, Anurag Thakur visited Sree Kanteerava Stadium to raise the spirits of finalists of the Kabaddi matches.
The closing ceremony which was attended by Home Minister Amit Shah was marked by cultural fest, Yoga and Laser show. In his speech, Amit Shah said said that the initiatives taken by the government to improve the prospects of India in the international sporting arena is yielding results.
Jain University was declared winner who finished with 20 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze. Lovely Professional University became first runner up while Punjab University became second runner up.
However, a few attendees of the Khelo India University Games 2021, faced difficulty while entering Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium for the closing ceremony. A few media personnel were asked by the police to remove their black face masks or black clothing items, despite having accreditation card and separate closing ceremony pass. It was due to the presence of the Home Minister that the security process was geared up.
