Some new records in Swimming marked the first day of Khelo India University Games 2021 with Olympian Srihari Natraj winning his first medal in the competition.
Srihari Natraj set a new record at the ongoing Khelo India University Games 2021 (KIUG) in the 50m Freestyle by clocking 23.23s. With the record, he won the gold medal and also shattered Mihir Ambre’s record (23.78) from the previous edition. Siva Sridhar recorded a new KIUG time of 2:05.43 and won gold in the 200m Individual Medley. Dhanush Suresh from Anna University breaks the KIUG 200 m Breaststroke record with a time of 2:20.17
Shrungi Bandekar from Jain University became the first woman Swimmer to break a KIUG record by clocking 1:07.50 in Women’s 100m Backstroke. Rujuta Khade, who won gold in Women’s 50m Freestyle, broke yet another KIUG record of Sadhvi Dhuri with a time of 27.38.
At the end of day one, Karnataka’s Jain University occupied the top spot on the medal tally with five medals.
