India finish with 17 medals at Asian Wrestling Championships

India finished with a total tally of 17 medals- one gold, five silver and 11 bronze, at the Asian Wrestling Championships held in Ulaanbaatar.

Tokyo Olympic medallist Ravi Kumar Dahiya won the solitary gold at the Asian Wrestling Championships when he finished at the top position in Men’s 57kg weight class.

India started the campaign with three medals on the first day. The Greco-Roman wrestlers bagged 3 bronze medals-Arjun Halakurki in 55kg, Neeraj in 63kg and Sunil Kumar in 87kg. The medal tally was further extended by Sachin Sahrawat and Harpreet Singh when they won bronze in 67kg and 82kg respectively.

On the third day of the championships, the Indian women opened their account when Sushma Shoken and Sarita Mor won bronze in 55kg and 59kg Freestyle respectively. Manisha also won bronze in 62kg Freestyle. Anshu Malik and Radhika won silver in Women’s Freestyle 57kg and 65 kg respectively.   

In the Men’s category, apart from Ravi Dahiya‘s gold, Bajrang Punia, Deepak Punia and Gourav Baliyan won silver. Naveen, Satyawart Kadian and Viky won bronze. 

Though the medal count this year surpassed last year’s haul of 14, India did win five gold medals at the 2021 edition held at Almaty.
