Tajamul Islam is a remarkable athlete in Kickboxing whose grit and passion for her art will inspire other young athletes for generations to come.
Young Tajamul Islam from Kashmir has won the title of World Kickboxing Champion at Cairo in Egypt, after defeating Lalina from Argentina, in the final. This is 14-year-old Tajamul’s second World Kickboxing Champion title, after the Bandipora district resident had last won the title in 2016.
Tajamul Islam, who started fighting when she was around 6 years old, posted a message on Twitter after her win- “It was really a proud moment for me when I get gold again in world kickboxing championship in Cairo, Egypt 2021. Now I am 2 Times world kickboxing champion“.
As the news of her winning a second gold medal in world Kickboxing championship spread in her hometown, relatives, neighbours, and people, from all parts of Bandipora district thronged to her residence to congratulate her parents.
Tarkpora, the remote village of Northern Kashmir in Bandipora district- this is where Tajamul grew up. She took Kickboxing at a tender age and got national recognition at seven after she bagged the Gold medal at the National Kickboxing Championship (Sub-junior category) in 2015. A year later, in 2016, she etched her name into the history book as she represented India in Italy and clinched the gold medal in the Under-8 category of the World Kickboxing Championship.
Then onwards, Tajamul started winning medals at district, state, national and international tournaments. But what is most interesting is that, Tajamul, at this young age has vowed to shape careers of girls younger than her in Kickboxing. She runs a sports academy of her own, in Bandipora, where she imparts training to several hundred young girls, so that they can also compete in Kickboxing.
Tajamul’s next target is to represent India in the world’s biggest sporting stage – the Olympics– and securing a gold medal for her country. Ahead of her campaign in Egypt, the young Kickboxing champion had posted a video on her Instagram account where she had expressed her deep desire to meet the nation’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and the Sports Minister Anurag Thakur.
Following Tajamul’s record-breaking triumph, Lt. Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, took to Twitter to congratulate the young champion for her great victory and wished her the best for the bright future. His tweet read, “Many congratulations to Tajamul Islam of Bandipora for scripting history in Cairo Egypt by winning the Gold medal at the World Kickboxing Championship 2021. Our young kickboxing champion has done exceptionally well over the years.”
Simultaneously, Tajamul Islam is nurturing another dream to become a doctor.
