Indians are dominating the track and field at Jakarta. Manjit Singh ran some of his finest last seconds to win the gold in 800 metres defeating compatriot and favourite Jinson Johnson. Manjit clocked 1:46.15 while Johnson clocked 1:46.35 to make it a memorable double for India.
This is the third time at the Asian Games that India have won two medals in the Men’s 800 metres race. In 1951, Ranjit Singh had won gold while Kulwant Singh won silver. In 1962, Daljit Singh won a silver medal and Amrit Pal finished with a bronze. This is India’s sixth gold medal in the Men’s 800 metre race.
