Athletic medals all day: Silver won by Neena Varakil, Sudha Singh & Dharun Ayyasamy

India’s medal tally swelled up as the Indian athletes continue to shine in the Track and Field events. Dharun Ayyasamy won silver medal in Men’s 400m Hurdles. Ayyasamy broke the 10-year old 400m Hurdles national record with a time of 48.96 seconds which was previously held by Joseph Abraham.

32-year-old Sudha Singh bagged a silver in the 3000 metres Steeplechase. She had previously won a gold in 2010 at Guangzhou. After winning her medal Singh said, “I have proven myself those who kept saying that I had passed my age to win a medal. I am happy that I won the medal. I want to thank my coach.”

Neena Varakil also secured silver medal in Women’s long jump final. She started with a leap of 6.41m and then improved to 6.50m which ensured her spot in the second position.
