All bronze but four medals in Wushu- Naorem Devi, Santosh Kumar, Bhanu Pratap, Narender Grewal bring glory

The Indian Wushu team scripted history with a remarkable triumph in the non-traditional sport at the Asian Games 2018. Naorem Devi, Santosh Kumar, Bhanu Pratap and Narender Grewal won four bronze medal for India in Wushu.

Naorem Devi is up against China’s Yingying Cai in the 60kg category in the semi-final.She lost to her Chinese counterpart by 0-1 to settle for a bronze. Santosh Kumar won the second medal in Wushu. He had to settle with the bronze after losing to Vietnam’s Ziang by 0-2. The Indian never looked formidable and went down fighting. Bhanu Pratap also lost his semi-final bout and he will have to settle for bronze in the 60kg category in Men’s Sanda. He injured his leg during the bout. But his Iranian opponent Erfan showed sportsman spirit to carry him on his shoulders out of the mat. And lastly, Narender Grewal fought closely but lost to  Foroud Zafari of Iran by 0-2 in the 65kg Men’s Sanda.

India’s four Wushu medals at the ongoing Asian games exceeded its tally of the number of Wushu medals that was won at the Incheon games in 2014, when two bronze medals were secured.
