The Para Badminton International at Thailand turned out to be a successful sojourn for Indian para shuttlers. The Indian contingent returned from Bangkok with 6 medals of which two are gold, one is silver and the other three are bronze.
Parul Dalsukhbhai Parmar, the top seed in the women’s singles SL3 category, emerged winner by defeating Wannaphatdee Kamtam of Thailand. But she had a tough fight from her Thai opponent for 45 minutes. Eventually Parmar won by 24-22, 17-21, 23-21. The bronze in this category went to another Indian Manshi Joshi who lost to Kamtam by 6-21, 8-21.
Parul Parmar had a tough tournament playing two consecutive three-game matches. In the semi-finals, she conceded a game before rebounding for a 21-8, 17-21, 21-11 win over Thailand’s Darunee Henpraiwan.
In the men’s singles SL3 category, it was an all-India final where Pramod Bhagat beat Manoj Sarkar by 21-18, 21-09. Pramod won the match in only 26 minutes giving no chance to Manoj to recover.
In the SS6 Singles category, Krishna Nagar of India won the bronze and in the Doubles category, Mark Dharmai and Raja Magotra won another bronze for India. Krishna fought hard in the semi-finals before going down 18-21, 15-21 to the 3/4th seed Chun Yim Wong of Hong Kong. However, the Indian doubles pair was completely outplayed by by the second seeds Man Kai Chu and Chun Yim Wong of Hong Kong where they were beaten by 10-21, 8-21 in only 21 minutes.
