Electing to bat first, India rode on Mithali Raj’s brilliant 97 to post a score of 169 for 3 wickets in 20 overs.
Malayasia started positively by picking up opener Smriti Mandhana’s wicket in the second over. Ainna Hamizah Hashim cleanly bowled Mandhana to provide the breakthrough. But that was the only lightning point of Malayasia’s effort in the match.
All-rounder Pooja Vastrakar, promoted at no. 3, scored a quick flash of 16 runs before getting out to young spinner Noor Hayati Zakaria. But the veteran Mithali Raj carried on her good form to score 97 of 69 balls. On her way, she hit 13 boundaries and one six. India’s T-20 skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur scored a quickfire 32 off 23 before falling to a run-out. Next came Deepti Sharma’s whose 18 runs cameo in 12 balls took the Indian score to 169.
Coming into bat, Malaysia showed poor batting performance by getting dismissed at a paltry 27 runs. Pooja Vastrakar took 3 wickets. Mithali Raj was adjudged ‘Player Of the Match’.
