DIAMANTO EVRIPIDOU RHYTHMICALLY WINS IT FOR CYPRUS
Rhythmic gymnast Diamanto Evripidou brought her haul to a total of six medals for Cyprus. Apart from winning individual all-around and team gold medals, she also won gold in the hoop and ball, silver in the ribbon and bronze in the clubs.
TOM DALEY GETS HIS 5TH CWG GOLD
Englishman Tom Daley got his 5th Commonwealth Games gold. The English team of Tom Daley and Daniel Goodfellow won gold in the men’s synchronised 10m platform final, scoring 405.81. Another English team, comprising Matthew Dixon and Noah Williams, took silver with a score of 399.99, followed by Australians Domonic Bedggood and Declan Stacey in bronze, with 397.92.
FIRST-EVER WOMEN’S RUGBY SEVEN MATCH TOOK PLACE
The first Women’s Rugby Sevens matches in Commonwealth Games history took place with eight Commonwealth teams contesting.
CASTER SEMENYA WINS DOUBLE GOLD
Long-distance runner, Caster Semenya, won the 800m and 1500m gold at the Commonwealth Games. The two-time Olympic and three-time world champion, Semenya contested at the Commonwealth Games for the first time and gave two gold to South Africa.
15-YEAR OLD SHOOTING SENSATION
India’s Anish Bhanwala won the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol event as a 15-year old young shooter. He became India’s youngest Commonwealth Games gold medallist. On the other hand, veteran shooter Tejaswini Sawant also won gold in 50m Rifle 3 Position. Anjum Moudgil won the silver at the same event.
Indian wrestlers won 4 medals on Day 9. Bajrang Punia delivered gold in Men’s Freestyle 65kg. Pooja Dhanda and Mausam Khatri won silver and Divya Kakran won bronze.
The only boxing medal came through the hands of Naman Tanwar who won bronze in 91kg category.
