FIRST BEACH VOLLEYBALL MEDAL AWARDED
Australia and Canada won the first Men’s and Women’s Beach Volleyball medal in Commonwealth Games history. In the Men’s section Australians Chris McHugh and Damien Schumann overcame a 12-9 deficit in the third set to defeat Canada’s Samuel Pedlow and Sam Schachter in the gold medal match. However, in the Women’s section, Canada had an easy outing with Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes posting a 2-0 victory over Mariafe Artacho Del Solar and Taliqua Clancy.
KEN HANSON BECAME THE OLDEST GOLD MEDALLIST
At 68 years, Australian para lawn bowler Ken Hanson, became the oldest athlete to win a Commonwealth Games gold. In the Open B6/B7/B8 Triples competition, Hanson along with Tony Bonnell and Josh Thornton beat New Zealand for the gold.
INDIA CLAIMS MORE SHOOTING MEDALS; WRESTLERS RULE
Indian wrestlers won 4 medals on the mat. Sushil Kumar won his third Commonwealth gold. Rahul Aware won gold, Babita Kumari Phogat won silver and wrestler Kiran won bronze. Veteran shooter Tejaswini Sawant won silver in Women’s 50m Prone finals. On the track, Discuss Thrower Seema Punia and Navjeet Dhillon won the silver and bronze respectively.
