CYCLING RECORDS TOPPLED AND CREATED
In this year’s Commonwealth Games, Cycling records were set and reset in most of the events. Australia won 10 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze, a total of 19 medals. Scotland lie second with 10 medals and England are in third position with 9 medals.
COMMONWEALTH GOLD ADDED TO LAKEISHA PATTERSON’S COLLECTION
The golden girl of Paralympic Swimming, Lakeisha Patterson won gold in S9 100m freestyle final. She clocked 1:03.02, just .05 seconds ahead of England’s Alice Tai. It was the personal best time for Patterson.
HAMMERMAN WON GOLD AFTER NEW GAMES RECORD
Nick Miller of England claimed the Men’s Hammer Throw gold medal with a new Games record of 80.26m. Australia’s Matty Denny claimed the silver and Scotland’s Mark Dry took the bronze.
INDIA CLAIM WOMEN’S TABLE TENNIS GOLD
Indian Table Tennis team scripted history after the Women’s team won the first ever gold medal at the Commonwealth Games with a 3-1 victory over Singapore in the final. The team of Manika Batra, Mouma Das, Madhurika Patkar, Pooja Sahashrabudhe and Sutirtha Mukherjee gave India much joy to celebrate.
INDIA RULES IN WOMEN’S 10M AIR PISTOL EVENT
16-year old shooting sensation Manu Bhaker of India won the coveted gold in 10m Air Pistol at the Commonwealth Games 2018. Veteran Hena Sidhu bagged the silver in the same event. Bhaker achieved a Games Record with 240.9 points while Heena battled elimination early in the final and shot brilliantly to claim silver with a total of 234.0.
WEIGHTLIFTING GLORY CONTINUES FOR INDIA
Punam Yadav won the 5th gold for India in Weightlfting as she lifted a total of 222kg in the Women’s 69kg. Vikas Thakur won bronze in Men’s 94kg Weightlifting.
