The Indian contingent comprising of 218 athletes arrived at the Gold Coast Commonwealth village to participate in the Games that begin on April 4 and will go on till April 15, 2018. The 218-member contingent includes a 31-member athletics team. The Indian athletes will camp and train at Super Sports Center in the Gold Coast till March 25 before moving to the Commonwealth Games village.

The contingent members comprising athletics, boxing, basketball, hockey, lawn bowling and shooting have reported at the Village as they arrived in batches,” an Indian Olympic Association (IOA) release said. The chef-de-mission, Vikram Singh Sisodia along with team mangers Namdev, Ajay Narang and Shiyad have set up the IOA office at the Village to help India team members a hassle-free consultation and providing day-to-day facilities.

Apart from players and officials, a seven-member delegation from the Union sports ministry lead by Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore will arrive at Gold Coast on 8th April 2018. The ministry, which had submitted a list of eight officials and the minister for the quadrennial event a few days back, got the approval from the Prime Minister’s Office on Saturday.

However, soon after their arrival, the Indian contingent was under high scrutiny by the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) officials after reported findings of needles and syringes from some rooms occupied by them. Though nothing has been announced officially, Commonwealth Games Federation officials are probing a possible breach of doping protocols.
