Peter Roebuck, perhaps the most famous cricket writers, was born on this day. He played 335 first-class matches and 298 List A matches for Somerset ut never played for England. Later he became a distinguished cricket writer. Roebuck died in 2011 when he fell to his death from a hotel room in Cape Town.

The highest total in one-day internationals at the time was scored by Sri Lanka against Kenya. In the World Cup match Kandy, the Sri Lankans put up a huge score of 398 for 5. There was an opening partnership of 83 runs between Sanath Jayasuriya and Romesh Kaluwitharana in 6.3 overs. There were 14 sixes and 43 fours in all. Aravinda de Silva scored 145.

Kieran Powell, the powerful West Indies opening batsman, was born on this day. He made his ODI debut in 2009 and Test debut in 2012. In his debut series he made twin hundreds against Bangladesh in Mirpur in 2012.
