1968
Aminul Islam, the Bangladeshi cricketer who made a century in his country’s inaugural Test, was born on this day. He achieved this feat against India in Dhaka in November 2000. He made 145 and became the third person to do so, after Australia’s Charles Bannerman and Zimbabwe’s Dave Houghton.

1973
Sir Richard Hadlee, one of the greatest allrounders of all times, made his Test debut on this day.  In the first Test against Pakistan in Wellington,, Hadlee made a not so famous debut as he took only 2 wicket for 112.

1985
Upul Tharanga, Sri Lanka’s noted left-handed opener, as born on this day. In 2006, Tharanga scored two hundreds and a half-century in Sri Lanka’s 5-0 victory against England. But his Test career never took off. He was dropped from the ODI squad for nearly seven years. But Tharanga is a regular in the Sri Lankan ODI squad. He scored three more half-centuries in the 2007 World Cup.

PoulomiKundu started her career in 2000 as a freelance journalist in Hindustan Times. Soon after she was selected an intern in Zee News, Kolkata. There she got the job in Raa Media Pvt Ltd. as an associate director of two programmes for Doordarshan-Yuva and Paisa Vasool. In the meantime, she also wrote features in DNA as a freelancer. Poulomi directs promotional videos, develops scripts for films for Corporate and NGOs. But an ardent sports lover, Poulomi always had an urge to contribute somewhere in the field of sports. Her love for sports started from an early age when she played gully cricket and football for local teams. Academics and professional hazards sometimes took her away from her passion, but it never died in her. She always nurtured the never-ending dream. So she materialized her dream in the form of ‘SPORTSAVOUR’. It is an online sports portal that serves sports with the tagline ‘For the indigenous, unconventional, unknown’.
