It is referred to as a young sport; not a traditional type and unknown to many. Pickleball, one of the fastest-growing sport in the USA, is gradually pacing up its way in India too. As the All India Pickleball Association (AIPA) is working in the developmental aspects of the game, it is reaching to people with utmost interest in sports and activities. It has now been involved in the fitness regime of many who lead a stressful life and bogged down by professional commitments. The younger generation finds immense happiness after playing this fun game- a combination of tennis, badminton and table tennis.

Witnessing this gradual popularity of Pickleball in the maximum city, the Kandivali Footprint Club located in the western suburbs, inaugurated the first dedicated open Pickleball court in Mumbai. “We generally play in basketball or table tennis courts in a makeshift way. But now we have a dedicated court to play Pickleball where the net will always be hung as a symbol of the growth of this game,” revealed Sunil Walavalkar, General Secretary of All India Pickleball Association.

The occasion was graced by Neil Friedenberg, Owner and President of Prolite, the largest manufacturers of Pickleball products. He was accompanied by Phil Larsson, Director of Public Relations of Prolite.  Friedenberg and Larsson were on a 7-day India tour under the able arrangement of Pickleball enthusiast Manish Rao. They supervised some Pickleball clinics and workshops in Mumbai and Jaipur. “People here are quite energetic about this sport. Its great to see the game rising in popularity in nations other than the USA and we are very hopeful to see this game’s development in India,” stated Neil Friedenberg.

The court is open for all residents who wish to have a hands-on experience of the game. Interested sportsmen will be provided coaching too. The owner of Footprints, Hanvant Gadhvi feels that this venture will boost the popularity of this amazing game among the mass.
