Jack Hobbs, the man who scored the most runs and the most hundreds in first-class cricket, was born on this day. The Englishman scored 61,760 runs and 199 centuries of which most of the runs came while playing for Surrey. Hobbs formed a dynamic opening partnership with Herbert Sutcliffe for England national team. He made a record 12 Test hundreds against Australia, including three in four innings in 1911-12.

Don Bradman made his debut in first-class cricket for New South Wales. He scored 118 runs against South Australia in Adelaide. In that match Bradman batted at No. 7.

1952
Joel Garner, the man famous for giving nightmares to any batsman, was born on this day. The 6feet 8inches tall Garner was known as the Big Bird. The West Indian was in the team when the Caribbeans were at its peak with the destructive bowlers like Malcolm Marshal and Michael Holding. Garner holds the record for the lowest economy rate in ODI.

1997
Belinda Clark, the then captain of the Australian women’s team became the first player in the history of ODI cricket to break the barrier of 200 runs on this day. Clarke made 229* in Mumbai in the 1997 World Cup match against Denmark. She held the record for the highest one-day score till Rohit Sharma made 264 in 2014.

Her love for sports started from an early age when she played gully cricket and football for local teams. Academics and professional hazards sometimes took her away from her passion, but it never died in her. She always nurtured the never-ending dream.
