Two days after Ritu Phogat won silver in women’s category of U-23 World Senior Wrestling Championship, Bajrang Punia and Vinod Omprakash won two silver in the men’s section. This is the first time in the history of this championships that India returned with three silver medals. It bettered the 1 silver and 2 bronze tally of India in 2013 World Wrestling Championship held at Budapest in Hungary.
While Punia came second after losing 6-17 to Russia’s Nachyn Sergeevitch, Omprakash lost 1-3 to USA’s Richard Lewis. But both these two are considered to carry on the baton of Indian men’s wrestling after Sushil kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt. Punis trains at Dutt’s wrestling academy in Gohana in Sonepat.
