ISSF World Shotgun Championship: India win senior and junior double trap silver

India’s Ankur Mittal won silver medal in the men’s double trap event at the ongoing ISSF World Shotgun Championship in Moscow. Mittal was ahead of Vitaly Fokeev but in the last four shots the Russian took over and eventually won the gold for the host nation. Mittal scored 66 points while Fokeev scored 68 points.

However, Mittal finished at the top in the qualifiers with a total point of 145. Sangram Dahiya ended in 20th place with 135 while Md. Asab came in 23rd with 133 hits in the qualifying round. The trio was placed 5th in the Team Category with a total of 413 points. Italy won gold with 418 points while China finished 2 points behind at 416 to win silver.

In double trap junior category, Ahvar Rizvi won the silver. 17-year old Rizvi shot brilliantly to lead almost till the end, but lost the gold in the last two targets to James Dedman of Great Britain. Ahvar finished with 66 out of 80 targets with Dedman a point ahead on 67. 

 Shardul Vihaan was the highest scorer in the qualifying round of junior category but he was the first to bow out of the final in 6th position, shooting 19 targets out of the first 30. India’s shooting sensation, Shapath Bharadwaj finished a disappointing 13th in the qualifying round with a score of 125. However, the Indian men’s junior double trap team India won the gold with a combined score of 401. Italy won silver with 389 and China won bronze with 387.
 
At the end of day 5, Italy is on top of the medal table with 6 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze. India is placed 4th with 1 gold and 2 silver medals.  The Championship is due to continue in the next days with the Skeet events. The qualifications will start on 7th September. The women’s and junior women’s Skeet medals will be assigned on 8th September. The men’s and junior men’s Skeet finals will be held one day later, on 9th September, while the championship will be closed by the Skeet Mixed Team event on 10th September.
