Amritpal Singh and Vishesh Bhriguvanshi sign for NBL team

Indian basketball captain Amritpal Singh and former national captain Vishesh Bhriguvanshi created history when they signed to play for National Basketball League (NBL) in Australia. While Vishesh signed for Adelaide 36ers, Amritpal signed for Sydney Kings.

Vishesh Bhriguvanshi was chosen as one of the four Indians to appear for tryouts for the NBL in April 2017. He became the first Indian to sign a deal with the NBL. 6ft 4 inches tall Vishesh plays plays as a point guard/small forward in the national team. He has been in the team that have twice beaten Asia’s top team China, won gold in Lusofonia Games in Goa and secured their best international performance in twenty-seven years with a seventh-place finish at the 2016 FIBA Asia Challenge in Iran.

“On the second day of the tryouts, we had a shooting session and I had the best result among all the players. That gave me a lot of confidence.” Vishesh says. Though he is looking forward to play in the NBL, his immediate priority is to represent his country in the Asia Cup in Lebanon.

Amritpal SIngh was also invited by Sydney Kings to play for them in Atlas Challenge 2017.That was his trial for the NBL team. After successful outing there, he had been signed by the Sydney Kings as a back-up center. The 6ft 10inches tall Amritpal recently completed a tenure in Japan’s B-League, but he admitted that Australia’s top league was a step up in class. “The league in Australia is a very tough competition for me,” he told the media.

It is to be noted that if there is a chance of an encounter between these two Indian players on October 7, 2017 when Sydney Kings faces Adelaide 36ers in their first match.
