Sindhu settles for silver in her first World Badminton Championship final

India’s badminton sensation P V Sindhu had to settle for silver after losing 19-21, 22-20, 20-22 to Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in the World Badminton Championships at Glasgow in England. This was Sindhu’s best performance in World Championship as she appeared for the first time in the final. This was her third medal in the event having won bronze twice in 2013 and 2014.

It was hard-fought win for the Japanese. Rio silver medallist , Sindhu, played some brilliant smashes and drop shots to  put a brilliant effort against her opponent.

It was also India’s best-ever show in a World Championship as the country now has two medals for the first time. Earlier Saina Nehwal lost in her semifinal match against the eventual champion, Nozomi, to settle for a bronze medal. Saina lost to the Japanese 2-21, 21-17, 21-10 in a hard-fought match. This is Saina’s second medal in World Championship after her silver in the last edition in Jakarta two years ago.
