World Badminton Championship: Saina, Sindhu in semis, Kidambi out

Indian women ace shuttlers, Saina Nehwal and P v Sindhu, showed their mettle as they stormed into the semifinals of World Badminton Championships at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow. Their win in quarterfinals assured two bronze medals for India. This will be the the first time Indian shuttlers will return home with at least two medals.

22-year-old Sindhu destructed China’s big hope  Sun Yu 21-14, 21-9 in just 39 minutes to storm into the medal round of the Championships. This would be the third World Championships medal for Sindhu, who bagged a bronze each at the 2013, 2014 editions before losing in the quarterfinals in 2015.

Saina Nehwal defeated 16th seed Kirsty Gilmour 21-19, 18-21, 21-15 in a marathon match that lasted an hour and 14 minutes. Saina has now beaten the Scot five times in as many matches.

Saina, won a silver at the 2015 World Badminton Championships. She is up against Japanese seventh seed Nozomi Okuhara in the semifinals. Nozomi defeated defending champion Carolina Marin of Spain in another quarterfinal.

But in the men’s section India’s hopes ended as Kidambi Srikanth The Indian campaign went down to Wan Ho Son of Korea 21-14, 21-18 in the quarterfinals.
