Indian shooters put up a good show at the 7th Asian Shotgun Championship held in Kazakhtan. They won 7 medals in total till the second last day of the championship.
On the first day of the competition, Ankur Mittal showed his class when he defeated UAE’s Khaled Alkabi 71-70 to win his second international gold of the year after winning an ISSF World Cup stage Gold in Acapulco, Mexico. Ankur also landed the Team Gold in the event in the company of Md. Asab and Sangram Dahiya on the same day. The trio’s efforts in qualification however ensured that India easily won the Team Gold with a combined score of 415. UAE won silver with a score of 407 while China with 390 won the bronze.
A couple of days after, Kynan Chenai won bronze in men’s trap event, his first international medal at the senior level. He shot a score of 30 to finish at the 3rd position. Abdulrahman Al Faihan of Kuwait, who shot 39 for a new Asian finals record won gold while Talal AlRashidi, also from Kuwait bagged the silver with an effort of 38.Next day, Chenai won his second bronze in the mixed team trap event with partner Shreyasi Singh. Chenai and Shreyasi got the better of Lebanon 40-38 in the bronze-medal match to win India’s fourth medal of the competition.
India started day five in a confidence note with already 4 medals in its bag. The day turned to be more fruitful when Maheshwari Chauhan secured a bronze medal in women’s skeet. She also won the team silver alongside compatriots Rashmi Rathore and Saniya Sheikh. The trio shot a total of 190, finishing behind gold medalists China, who shot 195. Hosts Kazakhstan won the bronze shooting 185.
Another skeet medal was bagged by India on Day 6th as Sheeraz Sheikh, Mairaj Ahmed Khan and Angad Vir Singh Bajwa won the bronze in men’s team event. India aggregated 347 out of 375 behind eam Kuwait and Team Kazakhtan.
