Madan Lal, one of the key members of the 1983 World Cup winning squad for India, was born on this day. He was Kapil Dev’s genuine bowling partner for 39 Tests between 1974 and 1986. Madan Lal took 3 wickets for 31 runs in the World-Cup-final to play a vital role in the win.

1969
Karen Smithies, the winning captain for England in Women’s World Cup, was born on this day. She lifted the trophy after England beat New Zealand in the final at Lord’s in 1993. She was 24 then.

1989
Tamim Iqbal, the sensational batsman for Bangladesh, was born on this day. In his debut against New Zealand, he scored 84. Tamim played a brilliant innings of 82 in the second innings of Bangladesh’s 100th Test to ensure a win for his country.
